Personal Accountability: Getting Workers to End the Blame Game

Duration: 60 minutes

How often do you hear employees say things like:

“That’s not my job” or
“Nobody told me,” or
“I didn’t have the resources to get it done”?

The knee-jerk response is to say that these individuals aren’t taking personal responsibility, and that they need a good talking-to. The right response is to step back and say, “Wait a minute, there’s a pattern here of people making excuses. Do we have a leadership problem? Specifically, are our managers sloppy about defining roles, assigning people ownership of tasks, and holding them accountable?”

The costs are huge when managers lack this fundamental leadership skill. Projects get started but stall. Communication breaks down. People start pointing fingers. And morale suffers when your star employees realize that they don’t work at the high-performance organization they thought they did. When that happens, talent heads for the door.

But you can’t just tell your managers to hold their people accountable. They need a blueprint that starts with how to set goals and ends with how to celebrate a task or project successfully completed.

In this webinar, leadership expert Valerie Grubb will lay out a 6-step process for building a culture of accountability in your organization.
