“And” not “But” and Other Techniques for Communicating More Clearly with Employees

To achieve optimal success, you need optimal communication. Yet it's almost impossible to find a company, department or team that doesn’t have at least occasional communication breakdowns.
Leaders can lead the charge for clear communication by micromanaging their words when they speak to employees. Here’s just one small example:

When delivering feedback to employees, managers typically start with a positive and follow with the negative, bridging the two with “but”. “This was great, but this was bad”.

The employee hears: “All of the good was canceled out by one bad thing.”

By changing the word “but” to “and”, the manager delivers a different message. Now the employee hears: “There’s lots of good, just 1 thing to work on.”

This is just one tiny tweak that all managers can make to improve communication with employees. This webinar will teach you many more tricks and techniques to open lines of communication, improve relationships between managers and employees, increase employee job satisfaction and measurably improve results.
